A shrimp boat, 'Miss Montie,' washed ashore on Beverly Beach, Florida, after losing power. The Flagler Beach Fire Department initially could not contact the crew, but soon learned they were safe, having been removed before the incident. Captain Corey Thomas had attempted to anchor the boat but faced challenges due to rough waves. Although the Coast Guard could not tow the vessel due to safety concerns, they eventually secured a tow for it after it drifted significantly. Authorities ensured the boat remained upright and safe on the shore.
"We are just making sure that everything looks like it's buttoned up, the vessel is still upright, it's not capsizing or anything." - Brandan Blackwell, Coast Guard Marine Science Technician.
"I didn't want to leave the boat drifting," Thomas said. "The Coast Guard told me they couldn't tow me. And I couldn't understand why they couldn't tow me. They told me it was too dangerous." - Corey Thomas, Captain.
