Two candidates for the Miami mayoral race, Ken Russell and Emilio González, are set to be deposed regarding a lawsuit against former City Attorney Victoria Méndez and other city officials. The lawsuit alleges that Commissioner Joe Carollo is utilizing city resources for personal vendettas against local businesses. Russell’s deposition is scheduled for tomorrow, while González’s will take place later this month. Tensions rise as González claims the city is dysfunctional amidst ongoing legal issues, while Carollo dismisses their candidacies as irrelevant.
"It's one of my motivations for running for mayor," González told the Miami Herald when asked about the lawsuit. "We have a city that is broken. We have a city [where] its own residents are filing lawsuits against elected officials..."
"It's bad. It's ugly. It's unfortunate. But the circus continues," González added.
Carollo fired back. "They're deposing two losers. Two losers that will never be mayor of the city."
