Miami and Broward plastic surgeon blamed by state for a butt lift death
Briefly

The death of a patient undergoing a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) has prompted an administrative complaint against board-certified plastic surgeon Baotram Tran. The incident occurred at Professional Plastic Surgery in Miami, where the patient exhibited signs of distress after surgery and subsequently died. Florida regulations prohibit injecting fat into gluteal muscles due to the high risk of fatal complications, including pulmonary embolism. Tran, who has been licensed since 2016 and has no prior disciplinary actions, now faces a disciplinary process that may lead to various outcomes, including potential sanctions from the state Board of Medicine.
According to the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Tran has been board certified since Nov. 11, 2018. Tran's been licensed in Florida since Aug. 4, 2016. She has no previous disciplinary actions on her record.
During a BBL, which is a form of liposuction, fat is sucked from the abdomen area and injected into the butt area. Florida administrative code prohibits injection into glute muscles because it increases the chances of a fatal pulmonary embolism.
