"The final, haunting call came at 8.06pm. Joachim McNulty didn't have long left, he told his wife of more than 30 years. He was in some sort of difficulty at the pier near their home in north Mayo and he needed their daughter Joanna to come and help him."
"Just over a minute later, when his concerned wife, Geraldine, called him back, she got no response."
Joachim McNulty experienced difficulty at Belderrig Pier, Co Mayo, and made a final call to his wife at 8.06pm. He requested help from their daughter Joanna. After a minute, his wife Geraldine attempted to call him back but received no response. Tragically, his car slipped on the algae-covered surface of the pier and entered the sea, leading to his death.
