OT Taylor Decker asks for release after 10 years with Lions
"I fully intended to do it once again, but my time as a Lion is coming to an end. In the weeks since notifying the team of my return there have been numerous discussions. Many of which were a surprise to me, and we could not find a common ground. Therefore I decided to request my release."
"Decker was named to the Pro Bowl in 2024 and had appeared in 140 career games for the Lions since being selected as the 16th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft out of Ohio State."
Taylor Decker, offensive lineman and the Detroit Lions' longest-tenured player, announced his request for release from the team on social media. This decision came approximately two weeks after he declared his intention to return for an 11th NFL season. Decker cited numerous discussions with the team that surprised him and prevented reaching common ground as reasons for the release request. The nine-time Pro Bowl selection had appeared in 140 career games for Detroit since being drafted 16th overall in 2016 from Ohio State. He had previously considered retirement at season's end while managing shoulder pain that caused him to miss postseason play.
