Artie Burns has joined the Miami Dolphins as a free agent, returning to his hometown where he once thrived as a star in football and track. This transition is especially significant for Burns, who felt the Dolphins offered the best chance to showcase his versatile talent as both a cornerback and nickelback. After being drafted later than expected in 2016, Burns faced ups and downs in his career, including stints with the Steelers, Bears, and Seahawks. His familiarity with the Dolphins' defensive system and his desire for a prominent role are promising for his future in Miami.
"Being born and raised in Miami, to be a professional here, is a dream come true," Burns said during an introductory Zoom session with Dolphins reporters.
"I can play corner and nickel; those are the things they want to see me do," he said. "I definitely want to be around the ball more to make more plays."
Burns, 29, said he thought the Dolphins were going to draft him in 2016, but Miami opted for Laremy Tunsil at No. 13 and Burns went 26th to Pittsburgh.
In 2022, he played just 16 defensive snaps for the Seahawks and didn't allow a catch in one target.
