A woman fell from the Brickell Avenue Bridge in Miami as it was raised for boat traffic, despite warnings to leave. The incident occurred around 10:40 a.m. on a Saturday morning. The bridge tender had instructed her to clear the bridge but she chose to sit down instead. After about 20 minutes, the bridge was raised, and she fell while clinging to the railing. Fortunately, she survived the fall and was taken to the hospital along with a responding officer who was injured.
The dramatic fall happened around 10:40 a.m Saturday and was captured on video by a bystander. The video shows the woman, 49, clinging to the bridge's railing before sliding down the drawbridge and falling to the roadway below.
About 20 minutes later, the bridge tender, who did not realize she was still sitting on the bridge, lowered the crosswalk arms to stop vehicles and pedestrians. Two minutes later, the bridge began to rise and the woman was seen hanging on before she fell.
Miami Police and Fire Rescue responded quickly, with one officer injuring his hand on broken glass. Both the woman and the officer were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Robert Bruno, who recorded the video, told the Miami Herald he watched in disbelief. 'It was something I always imagined happening, like, 'What would I do?' The woman held on for dear life.'
