South Florida Elected Official Targets 2 Constituents Who Are JVP Activists
A Miami Beach activist leafleted for Jewish Voice for Peace at a major art fair and later found a billboard-bearing truck with her name and photo labeled “Jew hater.” Jewish Voice for Peace alleges City Commissioner David Suarez spent $4,000 of his own money on three billboard trucks targeting Donna Nevel, another JVP member, and the local chapter. The group says it obtained a receipt paid by Suarez to the billboard company as part of a lawsuit against the city over suppression of speech and organizing in solidarity with Palestinians. Suarez defended the action by claiming he could identify a “jew hater.” The trucks were intended to disrupt a JVP protest near the entrance of Art Basel Miami Beach, where the group began protesting in 2023 after learning sponsor UBS had ties to Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer.
"Art Basel first came to Miami Beach in 2002 but only became a site of JVP protest in 2023 when the group learned that sponsor UBS has deep ties to Elbit Systems, an Israeli weapons manufacturer that has played a key role in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people."
