"significant donation"
"As a fan of Miami for the past 57 years, I've always felt that our two Heisman Trophy winners deserved a lasting tribute,"
"We are grateful to Max for his generous support and his vision for honoring our two Heisman Trophy winners," Miami athletics director Dan Radakovich said. "Vinny and Gino are two of our most decorated Hurricanes and now their legacy will be on display on our campus for generations to come."
Max Chira donated $1.81 million to the University of Miami athletic department and the newly launched Victory Fund to support student-athletes. Part of the gift will fund life-size on-campus statues of Heisman Trophy winners Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta placed in front of the football facility. Vinny Testaverde won the Heisman in 1986 after throwing for 2,557 yards and 26 touchdowns and still holds the second-highest Heisman voting margin of victory. Gino Torretta won the Heisman in 1992 after throwing for 3,060 yards and 19 touchdowns. Athletics director Dan Radakovich praised the donation and the decision to honor both players.
