Wrestler, MMA fighter Ben Askren recounts double lung transplant: 'I only died four times'
Briefly

Ben Askren, former Olympic wrestler and MMA fighter, underwent a double lung transplant following a severe pneumonia case. He shared updates on his recovery and revealed he 'died four times' during his hospital stay. Askren stated he doesn't remember anything from May 28 to July 2 and lost about 50 pounds in 45 days, weighing in at 147 pounds now, a weight he hasn't had since he was 15. He expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from the wrestling community, which significantly impacted his recovery journey.
I actually just read through my wife's journal because I don't remember anything from May 28 to July 2. No recollection, zero idea, no idea what happened. ... It's like a movie. It's ridiculous.
I only died four times, where the ticker stopped for about 20 seconds. That's not ideal, you guys know that. But I got the double lung transplant. I made it out to the other side of it - gaining quite a bit of strength, learning to use everything again.
I haven't been 147 pounds since 15 years old, so I lost like 50 pounds in a 45-day period. So, man, that was a battle.
The outpouring of love from the wrestling community, it was just so amazing. Felt so good.
