"A translator who became a full-time carer for her severely disabled eight-year-old daughter killed herself and her child after becoming overwhelmed by loneliness, a coroner concluded. Martina Karos, 40, and Eleni Edwards were found dead at their home in Salford, Greater Manchester, after police were called when the girl did not turn up at school on 23 September 2024. Bolton coroner's court heard how Karos struggled with her mental health after the breakup of a relationship,"
"However, he said social isolation had been the main problem for Karos. It wasn't just the taking care of her, it was the fact that when she was alone in the house it was just her and Laney and she was non-verbal she was just lonely every night and she had nobody. He described Karos as a good mother, who had a degree in linguistics and was very bright, speaking multiple languages."
A translator turned full-time carer killed herself and her eight-year-old severely disabled daughter after becoming overwhelmed by loneliness. They were found dead at their Salford home after the girl missed school on 23 September 2024. Karos struggled with her mental health following a relationship breakup and felt socially isolated while caring for a blind, largely non-verbal daughter with limited mobility. Social services placed the child on a protection plan and provided daily carers, social worker visits, respite care, counselling, psychotherapy and accompanied social activities, but Karos struggled to engage and reported feeling life was not worth living.
