Dr. Matthew Miller departed the Department of Veterans Affairs after more than five years serving as executive director for VA Suicide Prevention. He offered support and encouragement to VA mission, leadership, and teammates and emphasized maintaining Veteran trust in VA services and resources as the top priority. The department named Dr. Todd Burnett as acting executive director for the Office of Suicide Prevention. During Miller's tenure, VA expanded suicide prevention approaches by leveraging predictive algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. VA's 2024 AI inventory listed 227 use cases, including REACH VET and an updated REACH VET 2.0 model that adds risk factors such as military sexual trauma and intimate partner violence.
