People We Meet: Ranjit Brar's 'horrible' road led him back to San Francisco
""It's easier to stay in something that feels more secure, even though it's a miserable life," Brar says."
""San Francisco, it's the best place if you want to change your life around, and it's the worst place if you want to destroy your life," Brar says."
""I came back to California ... to reconcile [with] my father, try to see if I could salvage the relationship," Brar says."
"Feeling 'empty inside,' Brar left behind his children and relationship and hit the road back to the Bay Area."
Ranjit Brar faced a pivotal moment in his life when he became addicted to painkillers after a shooting. This addiction led him to a life of crime, including drug dealing and theft, as he sought to fund his heroin use. Despite the misery of his choices, he found it easier to remain in that familiar, albeit destructive, lifestyle. After years of turmoil, he returned to San Francisco, hoping to reconnect with family and change his life, but continued to struggle with addiction.
