Marcus Skeet's journey on day three of his run from Land's End to John o'Groats took a difficult turn when he was caught in heavy rain and hail after 18 miles. Feeling cold and alone, he struggled to contact his support friend Harry due to a wet phone. Despite repeated pleas for help as cars passed by, no one stopped until a lorry driver finally assisted him, allowing him to warm up and connect with Harry. This moment marked a low point in his challenge, reminiscent of past struggles in his life.
'It was a low point of the challenge, but there had been lower points in Marcus's life. From the age of about 11 to his mid-teens, it was a tough time for me.'
Marcus said, 'I was screaming, asking for my mum, my grandma, all the family. There were all these cars going by but no one stopped.'
'I tried to call my friend Harry, but the phone was wet and not working. I managed to reach a layby where there was a breakdown van.'
He reflects, 'Maybe they were frightened. It probably looked really weird because I was crying at this point.'
