The World Happiness Report, published annually by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, ranks countries by self-reported life satisfaction using Gallup data. For the second consecutive year, no English-speaking country appears in the top 10. Nordic nations lead the rankings, with Finland holding the number one position for nine years running, followed by Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. Costa Rica recently entered the top 5 at fourth place. The United States ranks 23rd. Happiness among those under 25 in English-speaking and Western European countries has declined significantly over the past decade, dropping nearly one point on a 0-10 scale. Researchers identify social media overuse as a primary contributor to declining life satisfaction, particularly among teenagers who use social media more than seven hours daily.
