A five-year-old girl witnessed her mother crushed and trapped between her own car and a runaway vehicle and subsequently developed post-traumatic stress disorder. The girl was awarded almost €33,000 in damages by the Circuit Civil Court. Judge Terence O'Sullivan told barrister Gareth McGrory, counsel for the girl, that although the child had largely recovered from what he described as a very strange incident, she continued to suffer some effects five years later. The judge warned that those continuing effects could persist for quite a long time.
