Megan Valentine, director of athletics at St. Joseph's University, announced a free baseball doubleheader on April 26th to raise mental health awareness. Hosted at Staten Island's University Hospital Community Park, the event features a celebration of senior student-athletes while promoting mental health advocacy. Valentine collaborated with coach Rich Pecoraro, who has experience with mental health needs, and reached out to the nonprofit Morgan's Message. The organization aims to enhance mental health awareness and support through storytelling and community initiatives, emphasizing the importance of mental well-being in athletics.
These games will also be our baseball senior student-athlete celebration games. Alums and prospective SJBK students along with fans of the programs are welcome to attend.
Mental health is something everyone is involved with. It is OK not to be OK.
Morgan's Message... has worked with a number of collegiate athletics programs to advance the messaging and importance of mental health.
The doubleheader is part of our effort to promote awareness. Through these games, we aim to foster understanding and support for mental health issues.
