"The latest thermometers are ditching mercury and replacing it with high-tech sensors instead. One smart thermometer, developed by French health technology company Withings, received FDA clearance on Thursday. The Withings BeamO "thermometer of the future" not only takes a person's temperature. It can also perform a medically certified electrocardiogram and an auscultation for monitoring heart and lung health in less than a minute."
"When a person takes their temperature with BeamO, the sensors within the device record their heart's electrical activity, measure infrared light for body temperature, and capture acoustic waves to interpret heart and lung activity. This data is translated to the app and interpreted by AI to detect variations from a person's baseline."
Withings' BeamO received FDA clearance and combines temperature measurement with medically certified ECG and lung auscultation to deliver multiple vital signs in under a minute. Built-in sensors record cardiac electrical activity, measure infrared body temperature, and capture acoustic waves to assess heart and lung sounds. Collected data is transmitted to the Withings app and analyzed by AI to detect deviations from a user's baseline. BeamO integrates with Withings' HealthLink to generate shareable reports for clinicians. BeamO is available on Withings' website and will appear at other retailers next year; Withings+ offers Cardio Check-Up access to cardiologists for cardiac review.
