'Running helped me after breast cancer treatment'
"I want every young person to know how to spot when something isn't right"
"I believe schools have a vital role to play in teaching young people what's normal for their bodies both physically and mentally so they feel confident recognising changes,"
"It was the hardest thing I have ever gone through, without a doubt,"
"I felt very low - most people my age were travelling, making memories, and starting their own families, while I was going through this."
Moira Jordan was diagnosed with triple-positive breast cancer in March 2023 at age 29 after feeling a thickening at the outer edge of one breast. She was identified as a BRCA carrier seven years earlier following her mother’s ovarian cancer diagnosis. Planned preventative surgery after age 30 did not occur because cancer developed sooner. Treatment included fertility preservation, multiple rounds of chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with reconstruction, extensive radiotherapy, further chemotherapy the following year, and medical menopause. After nearly two years of frequent hospital visits, physiotherapy helped rebuild physical and mental strength. Jordan resumed running, completed the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise funds for CoppaFeel, and urges schools to teach young people what is normal for their bodies and minds so they can recognise changes.
