"I think that this entire thing has been a bit misleading,"
"an exciting therapy that may benefit large numbers of children who have suffered from autism,"
"gives hope to the many parents with autistic children,"
"I think anybody who's excited about the idea of a treatment or cure for autism has literally no idea or understanding of what autism is,"
President Trump and high-level health officials promoted leucovorin (folinic acid) as a treatment for autism and suggested links between Tylenol and autism. The administration issued a new label for leucovorin to treat cerebral folate deficiency (CFD). CFD is a rare brain condition whose connection to autism remains unclear, and only a minority of autistic people have CFD. Many scientists and medical organizations expressed skepticism about promoting leucovorin as a general autism therapy. Parents reacted with mixed emotions: some hopeful, others alarmed that the message could be misleading or imply parental responsibility. Genetic factors are identified as the leading, best-understood contributor to autism.
