Ellen Troy, a Scottish-born biochemist living in Castleknock, Dublin, experienced years of unexplained lethargy and persistent fatigue. She appeared to have the complexion of a healthy individual despite feeling symptoms typical of severe anaemia. After eating, she regularly suffered sudden energy slumps that left her feeling abruptly depleted. The slumps felt like an immediate loss of power, as if a plug had been pulled. The fatigue occurred without obvious triggers and resisted simple explanations or visible signs. These symptoms persisted for years and affected daily functioning and energy levels.
