Dave Coulier Diagnosed with a Second Type of Cancer
""A couple of months ago, I had a PET scan, and something flared on the scan,""
""The doctor said, 'We don't know what it is, but there's something at the base of your tongue.'""
""They said it's totally unrelated to my non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This is a new cancer. ... I said, 'Are you kidding me?'""
""We found it early enough where it's very treatable. ... It's got a 90% curability rate,""
Dave Coulier completed treatment for Stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma seven months earlier and then had a PET scan that revealed abnormal activity at the base of his tongue. Follow-up tests in October diagnosed p16-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, which doctors said is unrelated to the prior lymphoma. Treatment will include immediate radiation and is expected to continue until the end of the year. Doctors reported a favorable prognosis with about a 90% curability rate. Coulier received emotional support from Full House castmates and has promoted testing and early detection after his experiences.
