""With this move, listeners will no longer need to change channels to continue hearing Ocean State Media as they travel throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts,""
""Once approved, audiences can tune to a single frequency for a clear, high-quality broadcast, advancing our commitment to delivering distinctly local news and information more effectively and efficiently across the region.""
Audacy agreed to sell 103.7 WVEI-FM Providence to Ocean State Media, which operates The Public's Radio and Rhode Island PBS. Ocean State Media plans to consolidate its five frequencies into the single 103.7 FM signal after investing $4.9 million, financed by selling existing frequencies. The transaction requires Federal Communications Commission approval and could take up to 90 days. Audacy will relocate WEEI to a new signal in the Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts market, while WEEI continues on 93.7 FM in Boston. Audacy filed for bankruptcy in 2024 amid nearly $2 billion in debt, and WEEI trails 98.5 The Sports Hub in Nielsen ratings.
