Trump Threatens NPR and PBS
Briefly

In response to ongoing tensions between the Trump administration and public media, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (C.P.B.) is facing federal funding threats. Trump has targeted C.P.B. by attempting to remove board members and ceasing funding to NPR and PBS, claiming it promotes biased news. Though previous GOP administrations have also sought to cut public media funding, the current threats feel different, signaling deeper attacks on independent journalism. The situation is compounded by examples cited by the White House, showcasing perceived content issues with NPR.
Trump attempted to remove three of the C.P.B.'s five board members, to deprive it of quorum and freeze its activities.
In a press release, the White House listed 'examples of the trash that has passed for 'news' at NPR and PBS,' which include diverse topics that exemplify NPR's broad coverage.
Trump's executive order instructed the C.P.B. to 'cease direct funding to NPR and PBS... to ensure that Federal funding does not support biased and partisan news coverage.'
