James Murdoch, through Lupa Systems, is buying roughly half of Vox Media, including New York magazine, Vox.com, and Vox’s podcast network. The acquisition is reported to be worth about $300 million and will not include Eater, PopSugar, SB Nation, The Dodo, or The Verge. The deal gives Murdoch control over New York magazine and its sub-brands, including The Cut, Vulture, Intelligencer, The Strategist, Curbed, and Grub Street. Vox.com, known for originating the explainer news format, produces shows such as Today, Explained. The podcast network includes Pivot, Criminal, and Where Should We Begin? with Esther Perel. Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff will join New York magazine and Vox under a new company called Vox Media.
