The Farmers' Almanac began printing in 1818 and relies on a secret formula of sunspots, planetary positions, and lunar cycles to generate long-range weather forecasts. The publication has been used by farmers and gardeners for generations. Unofficial Networks, a New York–based digital publisher focused on skiing and outdoor recreation, acquired the almanac after an announced closure. Operations will move from Lewiston, Maine, to New York City. A new website will be "a living, breathing publication with fresh, daily content" and there are plans to revive a print edition. The acquisition emphasizes preserving and sustaining the iconic publication. The Farmers' Almanac was founded in New Jersey and moved to Lewiston in 1955.
