"The Poynter Institute today launched a on Poynter.org, bringing together its work in journalism training, ethics, media literacy, fact-checking, research and consulting to help journalists and the public navigate a rapidly changing information environment."
"In some newsrooms, AI is transcribing interviews, summarizing public meetings and helping reporters sift through mountains of documents and data for investigations. In others, editors have banned it outright. Most are somewhere in between."
"Poynter has been helping newsrooms and their audiences navigate AI for several years, and the new hub centralizes Poynter's services, training and resources. The aim is to help newsrooms use AI responsibly without losing audience trust, while helping audiences better understand how AI is shaping the information they consume every day."
"“Every newsroom is being told they need an AI strategy, and most of the advice out there is too abstract, misguided or frankly offensive to act on,” said Alex Mahadevan , director of MediaWise and the faculty member leading the AI Innovation Lab at Poynter. “The new hub puts common sense, responsible AI training, frameworks and media literacy resources in one place, and keeps readers grounded when AI is showing up everywhere in their feeds.”"
Poynter launched an AI hub on Poynter.org that brings together journalism training, ethics, media literacy, fact-checking, research, and consulting. Newsrooms are using AI for tasks such as transcribing interviews, summarizing public meetings, and sorting large document and data sets, while some have banned AI and many operate between those extremes. Audiences are also encountering more AI-generated images and videos, low-quality “pink slime” sites, and AI-driven newsletters. The hub aims to help newsrooms use AI responsibly without losing audience trust and to help audiences understand how AI shapes the information they consume. It includes training and member programming, including a live webinar on using AI effectively, improving workflows, recognizing tool limitations, and integrating AI responsibly.
