Elisabeth Moss, producer and star of The Handmaid's Tale, revealed at PaleyFest LA that while the series is ending with Season 6, the story of Gilead's women continues through a spinoff titled The Testaments. This upcoming adaptation, based on Margaret Atwood's sequel, explores events 15 years later. Moss shared that the knowledge of the spinoff allowed the creators to conclude the original series without tidily wrapping every plotline. Her hope is to leave the audience with a sense of optimism as they reflect on the series' dark themes and character journeys.
"We ended the story for us in a way that we think is appropriate, but it's also not the end, which was a great liberty for us."
"We didn't feel like we had to wrap everything up in a bow. There's more story that we can tell."
"Hopeful, I really do think that and hope that they do take some hope away from it."
