Nick Bilton, formerly a New York Times tech journalist, was appointed executive producer of 60 Minutes for the 59th season beginning in the fall. Tanya Simon, previously named top producer after Bill Owens resigned in spring 2025, was removed from the role. CBS News also ended its relationship with correspondent Cecilia Vega, who joined in 2023, and with executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, who had spent decades on the program. Sharyn Alfonsi was terminated, according to a representative, after she said her contract was not renewed while she remained an at-will employee. Alfonsi criticized the network’s decision-making and alleged she was penalized for pushing back on Bari Weiss’s criticisms of her December 2025 El Salvador prison segment. The changes represent a major shake-up of a long-running, highly watched program.
"Nick Bilton is one of the most entrepreneurial and ambitious journalists working today, Bari Weiss, the CBS News editor-in-chief, wrote in a post on X. I am thrilled that he is the next executive producer of 60 Minutes. In a memo to staffers, Bilton called the job the honor of [his] career."
