Santiago Campos, a Washington, D.C. high school senior, received the Mike Wallace Memorial Scholarship at the 47th News & Documentary Emmys. The scholarship is funded by CBS through a grant and supports students pursuing television journalism. In his acceptance speech, Campos thanked CBS News for the educational support, then criticized the network’s recent direction. He said corporate elites controlling information channels make journalism that serves people harder to find, while the public needs truth. He urged listeners to consider whether they would hesitate to name genocide or stay silent amid blatant lies. He linked his concerns to CBS News controversies following Paramount’s merger with Skydance and subsequent leadership changes.
"New owner David Ellison has made sweeping changes to CBS, many of which are more in line with the president's preferences. The network chose not to renew its contract with Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and a frequent critic of the president. Ellison also installed The Free Press Bari Weiss as the network's new editor-in-chief in early October."
