""Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is returning to the air on Tuesday, after ABC briefly suspended his show last week over comments the comedian made about Charlie Kirk's assassination. But while Kimmel is back on ABC, some of the broadcast network's affiliate TV stations plan to continue to preempt his show - including two California TV stations. KRCR-TV in the Chico-Redding area and KAEF-TV in Eureka are owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns or"
"operates 185 TV stations across the country, all of which will not be airing Kimmel's show on Tuesday night, according to Sinclair. Nexstar Media Group, another one of the nation's largest owners of local TV stations, will also continue to preempt Kimmel's show, but has no ABC affiliates in California. Together, Sinclair and Nexstar Media Group control about a quarter of the country's ABC affiliates, according to the Associated Press. Disney-owned ABC suspended Kimmel's late night show after a Sept. 15 monologue, during which the comedian said the "MAGA gang" was "desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them." Two days later, Brendan Carr, the Trump-appointed chair of the Federal Communications Commission, threatened ABC over Kimmel's comments. Carr told Benny Johnson, a conservative podcaster, "We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct to take action on Kimmel or, you know, there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead." Later that day, Sinclair announced that it would preempt "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on its TV stations. In a news release, the company wrote that it would fill Kimmel's show's slot with a "special in remembrance of Charlie Kirk." (Sinclair did not follow through and instead aired "Celebrity Family Feud" in Kimmel's slot.)"
