More than a decade after being filed, a class-action lawsuit against Google concerning its former Adwords advertising product is nearing resolution, with a proposed settlement of $100 million. The lawsuit originated in 2011, with claims that Google charged advertisers despite clicks coming from outside their targeted regions. The case involved extensive discovery, having accumulated over 910,000 pages of documents, and included two certified classes by 2023. Google hopes to finalize the matter, stating, "we're pleased it's resolved," as they continue to navigate other legal challenges.
The plaintiffs contended that Google was charging advertisers even when people outside of a region specified by those advertisers clicked on a link.
A judge has yet to approve the settlement; if they do so, Google will pay the aforementioned $100 million into a settlement account.
