Evoke Wellness, a substance use disorder treatment clinic, has reached a $1.9 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over deceptive marketing practices. The clinic, alongside two executives, falsely impersonated other treatment providers in online advertisements and telemarketing to lure clients. The settlement requires Evoke to cease these misleading practices and improve compliance protocols to prevent future incidents. A federal judge must approve the settlement before its enactment. The FTC revealed that Evoke misled thousands of potential clients, leading to numerous deceptive calls to their service line.
According to the FTC's complaint, Evoke and its executives misled potential clients by using the names of other clinics in ads and altering their own identity.
Evoke must implement stricter compliance protocols and punish agents misrepresenting the business, ensuring truthfulness in future advertising practices.
