Anne Wojcicki's nonprofit, TTAM, has acquired the assets of 23andMe for $305 million after the company's bankruptcy filing in March. This bid surpasses a previous offer from Regeneron, which opted not to contest TTAM's bid. However, the acquisition faces significant legal challenges, including a lawsuit from twenty-seven states that seeks to block the sale of genetic data without user consent. With nearly two million customers deleting their data since March, 23andMe's future remains uncertain pending bankruptcy court approval.
"23andMe cannot auction millions of people's personal genetic information without their consent," James stated in a press release.
TTAM's bid still needs to be approved by the bankruptcy court before it becomes official. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
