Thomas Meunier could have signed for Manchester United while at Borussia Dortmund but declined the transfer. He did not have a personal agent at the time, and the Dortmund coach directed him to the coach's own agent to facilitate the move. Meunier refused because he did not want a manager-driven placement using that agent. He stated that coaches working with agents to place players and receive payments is common and referenced about 45 similar examples he cannot fully prove. Meunier currently plays for LOSC Lille and is regarded as a reliable defender for club and country.
