Sitting with Sir Alex, 'knocked out' by stars & getting arrested
"literally dripping"
"Magi, are you a bit wet?"
"come and sit between Kiddo and myself"
"never seen rain like it. It was going sideways... it was dreadful"
Magi Haroun became the first female photographer to receive Premier League accreditation while working for the Today newspaper. During a torrential Uefa Cup return in Moscow in 1992 her equipment was soaking and at risk of failing. Sir Alex Ferguson invited her to sit in the Manchester United dugout between himself and assistant Brian Kidd to escape the rain, though she preferred positions behind the goal for better photos. After another goalless draw, United lost on penalties and Gary Pallister missed the decisive spot-kick, sobbing into his shirt facing the dugout where Haroun captured a back-page-worthy image. Haroun has also experienced arrest and being knocked unconscious while on assignment.
