Michael Carrick sends exciting message to Manchester United fans in first words as new boss
"Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour. I know what it takes to succeed here; my focus is now on helping the players to reach the standards that we expect at this incredible club, which we know that this group is more than capable of producing. I have worked with a number of the players already and have obviously continued to watch the team closely in recent years, I have total belief in their talents, dedication and ability to be successful here."
"Carrick is entering his second spell as United's caretaker manager after he previously stood in for three games in late 2021 after Solskjaer was dismissed. Following his retirement from playing in 2018, he remained at the club as a coach under Jose Mourinho and retained his position under successor Solskjaer, eventually leaving following Ralf Rangnick's appointment as interim boss and later spending two-and-a-half years as manager of Championship club Middlesbrough."
Michael Carrick is Manchester United's caretaker manager until the summer after talks with CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox. He played 464 times across a 12-year stint, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson. Carrick aims to restore pride and help players reach expected standards, expressing belief in their talents, dedication and ability. He previously served as caretaker in late 2021, remained at the club as a coach after retiring in 2018, left following Ralf Rangnick's appointment, and spent two-and-a-half years managing Middlesbrough. He will lead training and manage the upcoming derby; his backroom team includes Jonny Evans, Travis Binnion and Craig Mawson.
