Manchester United will move for ex-Chelsea manager as Ruben Amorim replacement
"Manchester United have sacked Ruben Amorim with immediate effect following the club's 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Sunday, January 4. The Red Devils were held to draws by newly-promoted rivals Leeds and Premier League basement club Wolverhampton Wanderers during Amorim's last two matches in charge. It is understood, however, that a breakdown in relationship between the Portuguese coach and the Old Trafford hierarchy is to blame for the manager's shock departure."
"Every department - the scouting department, the sporting director - needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on. "I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me," he added, also stating he came to Old Trafford to be 'manager of Manchester United', rather than 'head coach'."
Manchester United sacked Ruben Amorim with immediate effect after a 1-1 draw at Leeds on January 4. The team had also drawn with newly promoted Leeds and basement club Wolverhampton Wanderers in his last two matches. A breakdown in the relationship between the Portuguese coach and Old Trafford hierarchy contributed to the decision amid reported dissatisfaction with Amorim's tactical inflexibility. Darren Fletcher, a former United midfielder and current Under-18s coach, will take interim charge of the first team. Fletcher's sons Jack and Tyler were named in matchday squads. Amorim had said he intended to stay for 18 months and that he viewed himself as 'manager' rather than 'head coach'.
