Manchester United chief admits 'wanting to interfere' on coaching side before sacking Ruben Amorim
"Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox said he wanted to 'interfere', four months before the club dismissed manager Ruben Amorim on Monday."
"I just want to say I came here to be the manager, not to be the coach. I was really clear on that. "That is going to finish [when his contract expires] in 18 months and then everyone is going to move on. That was the deal."
"I'm a coach at heart. I know I'm in a different job now but I'm a coach inside. That's a strength in my role now, but that causes me a bit of a pro"
Jason Wilcox, Manchester United director of football, admitted a desire to interfere in coaching and said he is a coach at heart. Ruben Amorim was reportedly frustrated by Wilcox's reluctance to commit to players suited to Amorim's preferred 3-4-3 system. Wilcox pointed to a 1-0 Boxing Day win against Newcastle, when Amorim used a back four and secured a rare clean sheet, as a template. Amorim said he came to be the manager, not the coach, and his comments about role clarity were highlighted. Amorim was dismissed after a 1-1 draw with Leeds that left the club sixth; Darren Fletcher was named interim manager.
