Darren Fletcher will take charge of Manchester United as interim coach for the Wednesday match at Burnley after Ruben Amorim was sacked following 14 turbulent months at Old Trafford. Fletcher, 41, made 342 appearances for the club and has held roles since 2020 including under-18s coach and technical director. Fletcher described the appointment as surreal and an amazing honour. The club expects him to remain in place until a caretaker is appointed and plans to name Amorim's permanent successor at the end of the season. Preliminary talks included Fletcher, Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; conversations with the hierarchy focused on the Burnley match, with further talks planned after the game.
