""A lot of players have taken advantage of the head injury rule," said Carragher. "I'm surprised Michael Oliver hasn't pulled that back with a head injury.""

Bryan Mbeumo scored his first goal since August in the second minute at Anfield to give Manchester United the lead. Amad Diallo provided a deft pass inside the penalty area and Mbeumo finished from the left while Alexis Mac Allister lay on the turf after contesting possession. Liverpool manager Arne Slot and Jamie Carragher argued the goal should have been stopped because Mac Allister had a head injury. Referee Michael Oliver did not see the injury and allowed play to continue, and Mac Allister later received head bandaging on the pitch. Ibrahima Konate started for Liverpool despite recent muscle concerns.
