Lisandro Martinez hits back at Scholes and Manchester United punditocracy
"No, honestly, he can say whatever he wants. I told him already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to wherever he wants. To my house, wherever. I don't care. And I think for me, I respect the relations [former players] when they want to help the club because everyone can talk on the television but when"
"you see here [Old Trafford] face to face, no one says anything in your face. So for me, I don't really care what they say. I just put the focus on my performance, the performance of the team and I give everything to this club until my last day. It doesn't give me anything. My motivation is my family. That's it."
Lisandro Martinez criticised Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt for mocking his ability to mark Erling Haaland on a podcast rather than addressing him directly. Scholes said Haaland would score then 'throw him in the net' and Butt likened Haaland lifting Martinez to a father running with a toddler. Martinez invited Scholes to come to his house or speak face to face and said televised comments do not affect him. He said his focus remains on his own performance, the team's performance and his family. United won 2-0 with Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu goals in Michael Carrick's first match as interim head coach, and Martinez praised Carrick's mentality compared with Ruben Amorim.
