'Let's get rid of INEOS': Bruno Fernandes' X account hacked as Man Utd issue statement
"The United captain is not a regular user of the social media platform, with his most recent post before tonight coming in October, celebrating his 300th appearance for the club. But a flurry of activity from 11pm GMT, starting with messages regarding cryptocurrency, saw his feed go into overdrive with a string of posts to its 4.5million followers. After now-deleted posts about launching a cryptocurrency, the acccount added: This is why I need to get paid more."
"Another post read: Let's get rid of INEOS. Further messages tagged adult star Bonnie Blue, and then the England cricket team, before YouTuber KSI and world darts champion Luke Littler were messaged. United then confirmed the hack, posting on their own feed: Bruno Fernandes's X account has been hacked. Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages."
"In one of the final posts, the account posted an image of United's 7-0 loss to Liverpool from 2023. It is not the first time a high-profile football star has seen their X account hacked. Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe was the target of hackers in 2024, which saw his account post messages about Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Man Utd and Tottenham."
Bruno Fernandes's X account was inactive since October but experienced a sudden flurry of activity from 11pm GMT. The hacked feed posted messages about launching a cryptocurrency, including a now-deleted post reading This is why I need to get paid more, and other messages such as Let's get rid of INEOS. The account tagged adult performer Bonnie Blue, the England cricket team, YouTuber KSI and darts champion Luke Littler, and shared an image of United's 7-0 loss to Liverpool from 2023. Manchester United confirmed the account was hacked and advised supporters not to engage with posts or direct messages. Similar hacks have targeted other stars, notably Kylian Mbappe in 2024.
