Angry Amorim tells Manchester United: I'm here to be manager, not coach'
"I came here to be the manager of Manchester United not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear. I know my name is not [Thomas] Tuchel, [Jose] Mourinho or [Antonio] Conte but I'm the manager. It's going to be like this for 18 months or until the board decide to change. I'm not going to quit, I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me."
"I noticed that you receive selective information about everything, he said after Matheus Cunha's goal cancelled out Brenden Aaronson's opener for Leeds. I came here to be the manager of Manchester United not to be the coach of Manchester United. That is clear. I know my name is not [Thomas] Tuchel, [Jose] Mourinho or [Antonio] Conte but I'm the manager."
Ruben Amorim insists he is Manchester United's manager rather than merely head coach and demands a greater say over transfer policy. He criticised selective information flow and directed the scouting department and sporting director to perform their roles. He committed to remain in charge for the remaining 18 months of his contract unless the board decide otherwise and rejected quitting. Amorim warned that if people cannot handle external critics such as Gary Neville, the club needs to change. Tensions have risen with director of football Jason Wilcox and questions have been raised by head of recruitment Christopher Vivell about Amorim's tactical approach amid injury and Africa Cup of Nations absences.
