Amad Diallo discussed his frustrations as he struggled to find a regular starting position at Manchester United under Erik ten Hag. His disappointment peaked during an October Europa League match against Fenerbahce, where he was not chosen for substitution until late in the game. With the appointment of Ruben Amorim, Diallo gained more trust and became a key player. Although he faced an ankle injury that threatened his season, he made a quicker return to help his team and feels inspired by his new manager's belief in his abilities.
I need the game time to show I can play for this club, he said. In that moment I was a little bit frustrated because you can understand that sometimes maybe you deserve to play and you don't play.
It's because the manager believes in me, Diallo said. He believes in my potential. I'm trying to repay his confidence every time I'm on the pitch.
I did nothing special [to return earlier than expected], Diallo said. I just tried every morning to do my best with the physios.
Since Ruben Amorim succeeded Ten Hag in November, Diallo has been a first choice and one of United's better players.
