Rodri injury woes continue with early substitution
"Rodri's injury nightmares continued on Sunday as the midfielder was substituted in the 21st minute of Manchester City's Premier League match away at Brentford. The 29-year-old underwent surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee after he suffered the issue -- which also affected the miniscus -- in a Premier League clash with Arsenal in September 2024."
""Everybody knows it. But I said to Rodri, and maybe he struggled to understand: it's not about six months or seven months [after the injury]. 'Ah, [after] eight months I'll play and be the Rodri of before.' No. "Rodri will be good at the World Cup with Spain [next summer]. In the World Cup it will be the best Rodri and next season will be the best Rodri. This season will be how we handle it, step by step.""
Rodri was taken off in the 21st minute of Manchester City's Premier League match at Brentford after on-pitch treatment for his right knee. He previously underwent surgery to repair an anterior cruciate ligament injury and an affected meniscus sustained in September 2024. Rodri returned late last season and has been rebuilding fitness, including a 60-minute appearance in Monaco. Pep Guardiola warned that full recovery will not be rapid and that this season must be managed step by step, with the expectation that Rodri could reach peak levels by next season and the next World Cup if healthy.
