Sam Coffey has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City after a reported $800,000 (£600,000) transfer from Portland Thorns. The 27-year-old midfielder captained Portland to the NWSL playoff semi-finals and logged 2,432 minutes in 2025, ranking highly for tackles, duels and passes while directly contributing six goals. Coffey helped the Thorns win the 2022 NWSL title, has 42 caps for the United States and was part of Emma Hayes' 2024 Olympic gold-medal team. Coffey cited Manchester City's style of play, team cohesion and the timing to challenge herself as reasons for the move. City lead the WSL and have upcoming FA Cup and League Cup fixtures.
