"One of the challenges of following baseball as a fan or as a prospect evaluator is keeping track of the pools of players at all different levels, ages and countries. With that in mind, here is our third ranking of the best baseball players on Earth by birth year."
"One of the most interesting parts of my job as a prospect evaluator is mixing the levels of play, countries and ages of the players I scout, from international amateurs in Latin America and U.S. high school and college prospects to players in the lower minors, and foreign professional leagues in Asia and, of course, the more straightforward work watching players in the upper minors and big leagues."
A global ranking lists the best baseball players on Earth by birth year, blending players across professional levels, countries and ages. The ranking mixes international amateurs in Latin America, U.S. high school and college prospects, lower minors, foreign professional leagues in Asia and upper minors and big leagues. The exercise checks sources worldwide to measure movement over time among cohorts born the same year. The approach complements draft-class and international-signing-class views and helps track development as the offseason leads into MLB's international signing period Jan. 15 and the draft season. Teenaged players change rapidly; established big leaguers shift less.
