This Week in Purple: #Winning?
Briefly

The Colorado Rockies entered last week needing nine more wins to finish ahead of the Modern Era loss record set by the 2024 Chicago White Sox. The Rockies won three of four against the Arizona Diamondbacks and split a four-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers, hurting the Dbacks' postseason chances and tightening the NL West race. The Dodgers and Padres are tied for first. The Rockies suffered a 9-0 loss but have shown the ability to mount comebacks or score late. Five more wins are required to avoid the record with 27 games remaining, and Purple Row highlighted links, threads, and a discussion about potential September call-ups.
This week, they took three of four from the Arizona Diamondbacks (something local radio called "one of the lowest points of the season") and then split a four-game series with the Los Angeles Dodgers. They all but spoiled the Dbacks' chances of making the postseason, and made the race for the NL West crown more interesting with the Dodgers and San Diego Padres. Both teams are tied for first again.
That said, they still need five more wins to avoid the dreaded record. On one hand, it would be nice to not hold that record, especially for the sake of the players and coaching staff. But on the other hand, not breaking that record means it's just another run-of-the-mill 100-loss season that will only be remembered by those of us who have been following closely. There are 27 games left to find out where the Rockies will finish.
