"It's been a busy off-season for the Los Angeles Angels. Making another addition on the pitching front, the Halos reportedly signed veteran reliever Kirby Yates to a one-year deal on Tuesday, per Ari Alexander of Boston 7 News. The contract will be worth $5 million next season, as the New York Post's Jon Heyman added. The 38-year-old Yates will now remain in Los Angeles after spending last season with the Dodgers,"
"This time around, though, Yates will be paired with one of his former pitching coaches, Mike Maddux, who also served in that role during his excellent 2024 performance. In 61 appearances, the right-hander dazzled to a career-best 1.17 ERA and 2.50 FIP, accounting for a 24.1 per cent strikeout-minus-walk rate (K-BB%) and 1.9 fWAR - the highest of his career."
Kirby Yates agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels and will remain in Los Angeles after spending last season with the Dodgers. The 38-year-old posted a disappointing 5.23 ERA and 4.76 FIP across 50 appearances (41.1 innings) last season but previously produced a career-best 1.17 ERA and 2.50 FIP in 61 appearances, with a 24.1% K-BB% and 1.9 fWAR. His HR/9 jumped from 0.44 to 1.96 in 2025. The Angels have retooled the bullpen with additions including Drew Pomeranz and Jordan Romano and added starters Alek Manoah and Grayson Rodriguez. Several former Blue Jays and coaches with Toronto ties also joined the club. This upcoming season could prove to be the final one of Yates' career.
